He’s kind of being tabbed as the Next Eric Gordon, and that’s just not fair to him. He doesn’t possess the size, the power, or the athleticism as Gordon, and while Johnson is a nice shooter, he’s not Gordon. So that’s what he isn’t.
What he is is a nice mid major shooting guard, who if he could be more of a point guard, could find more high major suitors. He’s more somewhere between Skip Mills (Ball State) and AJ Ratliff (Indiana). That’s still not bad company to be in.
Johnson is an above average shooter, and as he improves the quickness of his release and shot selection, he would move up into the great range. He can score off the dribble, but if he is to move more into a play maker role or point guard role, he will have improve his handle. He does move well without the ball, which is a nice asset at any age, especially for a sophomore in HS.
Defensively, he is capable of being a strong defender. He’s making mistakes that most first year varsity players make as a sophomore. His development will be there.
