Ok…it’s finally time to write about Deshawn Thomas. Having seen him play for the better part of two summers, he could, in all likelihood should, end up being up there with the Greg Oden’s of the world in terms of talent and projecting his potential at this early age.
This incoming freshman is a 6’7″ (insert your favorite position). At this age, he can do it all, and while it remains how much he will grow, he is already is very skilled for a guard at any HS age. What is most impressive is his court vision. Coupled with his unselfishness, it’s very enjoyable to watch him play.
There is a little debate on how early is too early to promote/hype/discuss kids, entering HS is our policy, but this kid is as humble as he is talented, which puts him right up there with Oden in terms of being an overall character kid.
He has 3pt range, as a letfy, runs the floor like a deer and can finish spectacularly strong. It’s tough to get too technical defensively about a kid who has yet to have one HS practice, but he will be a most able defender.
The news on Thomas is he may be attending Fort Wayne Luers, which is the school listed for him in this final July event. Jokes about his HS recruiting beng more heated than most college recruitments, he has a decent group of Indiana high majors in attendance during the USSSA Nationals in Fort Wayne.
